Alaka'ina Foundation supports Ka 'Ie Ola Āina Momona o na Kānaka Maoli Mahi'ai – October 2024

The Alaka'ina Foundation, for the fourth year in a row is supporting a hui of Moloka'i mahi'ai (farmers) on Āina Momona o na Kānaka Maoli Mahi'ai (Hawaiian Homelands) in Ho'olehua Moloka'i.  Ka 'Ie Ola (the full bowl) is an organization of eight farming 'ohana.  For the first two years the AF was teamed with the Kamehameha Schools Community Outreach program.  Together we have developed the first products that are exported off island since the closing of the Monsanto project.

Ka 'Ie Ola is growing enough mala (dry land taro) for Moloka'i and exporting kū lolo and lau kalo (lū.ʻau) to O'ahu helping with a shortage of lū.ʻau there.  We are very hopeful that this programs success will assist other Moloka'i mahi'ai.
