Alaka’ina Foundation donates to Hawaii Chapter American Red Cross to support residents of the Department of Hawaiian Homes Land (DHHL) at Anahola Kaua’i.
The Alaka’ina Foundation made a donation in March 2022 during American Red Cross Month, when the Red Cross honors the more than 300,000 people who volunteer to make its lifesaving mission possible. For nearly 80 years, U.S. presidents have proclaimed March as Red Cross Month to recognize people giving back through the organization’s lifesaving mission — which is powered by more than 90% volunteers.
This pilot partnership is designed to support fire safety planning and installation/maintenance of fire and smoke detectors in homes on Hawaiian Homes Land. Our first project will begin on the DHHL in Anahola Kaua’i.
The CEO for the Hawaii Chapter of the American Red Cross Dianne Peters-Nguyen a Kamehameha Schools 1977 graduate and the Hawaii Region Director of Disaster Preparedness John Blalock are leading this effort. When successful the foundations intention is to cover many other residents in HHL in the coming years. It is the desire of the foundation to protect na keiki a me na kupuna o na DHHL kauhale.
