August 24, 2010: On August 24, 2010, the Alaka`ina Foundation held a blessing for its Moloka`i Digital Bus Program. In June 2010, we hired Educational Coordinator Shannon U'ilani Lima as our on-island staffer and the blessing ceremony served as a formal kick-off of the Bus Program's activities on Moloka`i. Our Moloka`i Digital Bus Program currently supports students at all six Moloka`i public schools.
Among our honored guests were Senator Daniel K. Inouye, his wife Irene Hirano Inouye, and Senator Daniel K. Akaka. Both Senator Inouye and Senator Akaka gave glowing endorsements of the important STEM education initiatives provided by the Moloka`i Digital Bus as well as the vision of Board President Vaughn Vasconcellos in creating the Digital Bus program.
