In 2019 the Alaka'ina Foundation made an initial investment of $500,000 to fund scholarships to all UH system community colleges across the states. The primary focus was to help train more vocation and industrial arts students for the Hawaii workforce. Highly successful it has put into the economy firefighters, emergency medical technicians, nurses, police officers welders, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, culinary arts, sewing, automotive technicians, diesels mechanics and a wealth of other trades people.
With the renewal for five more years the successes will continue. UH President David Lassner, UHF CEO TIm Dolan spoke highly of our partnership and what it has done not only for Native Hawaiians but also Hawaii in general. All Chancellors of the Community College systems attended and were thrilled for the opportunity this donation gives them to education more students.
